RAVAG VIENNA; Interview on October 1, 1954 sent

(Original sound, Korngold, from the   radio interview broadcast on October 1, 1954,   CD section 02 -   0:00 to 0:35)

REPORTER      [...] But this time you did not come to Vienna because of the movie, Professor.

KORNGOLD    No, the Richard Wagner film, whose musical direction I have taken over, will be filmed in Munich [ cut out the Huster ], and my current holiday is for the Vienna premiere of my new symphony, which will take place on 17 October on the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation.

Incidentally, in the same concert, I will also accompany a new complete piece of mine on the piano, a dedication to my old hometown, Sonnet to Vienna , a beautiful poem by Hans Kaltenecker, to which I owe the book to my opera Das Wunder der Heliane . [12:35]

REPORTER      [0:35] Well, that's   a return to absolute music, Professor.

KORNGOLD    [0:37]   Yes, I withdrew from film as early as 1946, eight years ago, and have since devoted myself completely to my work for concert and stage. [12:48]

As you know, in the meantime, a violin concerto that has just appeared on records by Victor, a cello concerto, a string serenade premiered by Furtwängler with the Vienna Philharmonic, has emerged, including a small comedy that will be released in the next Month will be their stage premiere in Dortmund and later in Berlin. [1:14]

(To Magic Fire 50 seconds original sound Korngold, from the   broadcast interview sent on October 1, 1954,   CD section 02 -   1:10 to 2:10)

REPORTER      [...] I believe that your love for the stage is to be thanked for being involved in a film again, namely in the Richard Wagner film you mentioned.

KORNGOLD    Not only my fondness for the stage, but also my admiration for Richard Wagner, and frankly also my concern that if I reject the musical oversight of this Wagner film, as I had rejected countless film offers in the last eight years, perhaps less reverent hands than mine could treat this masterpiece in a modernist-disrespectful way.

[1:47] I myself stand up for the fact that there will not be a bar in this Wagner film that does not originally come from Wagner. There are indeed stage performance fragments of almost all his operas - from the Dutch to the Ring - shown, and I am certain that at least in America, a whole new audience for the Wagner music -   and thus for the opera - won.

REPORTER (hide) Professor Korngold ...

KORNGOLD      ( O-Ton / Interview 1954 /   Section   2:49 - 3:12 )   "Yes,   my dead city was   almost completely rehearsed by the Vienna State Opera before my last stay in Vienna four years ago , stage rehearsals were already scheduled, Decoration arranged, and at the last moment, by an unfortunate singer constellation [ cut out door noise ] - a shift, and then a disappearance in the sinking ".

RAVAG WIEN; Interview am 1. 10. 1954 gesendet

                        (O-Ton Korngold; aus dem  am 1. 10. 1954 gesendeten Rundfunk-Interview;  CD–Abschnitt 02 –  0:00 bis 0:35)

REPORTER     [...]

REPORTER            (ausblenden)  Herr Professor Korngold...
