The Paganini
Moto Perpetuo on this disc was recorded in one take. The story goes
that
the engineer
wanted to get sound levels. Rabin started the Paganini and immediately
everyone
realised
it was something special and within a fraction of a second conductor
orchestra and
soloist were as one. It was decided to issue the take for its
perfection
and sheer
driving
pace.

NOTE: This is a great album and one of my all-time favorites! Listening to it will put you and your ears on full alert! The thrilling arrangements are by Leo Arnaud.
In the early 60's, the producers of ABC Sports' Olympic coverage
selected
one section of "Bugler's Dream" as the theme music for their TV
coverage.
It took hold with the public immediately, and has been known ever since
as "The Olympic Fanfare."
NOTE: The reel-to-reel tape release lists the performers as "Felix Slatkin conducting THE PERCUSSION BRIGADE", but the LP release lists the performers as "Felix Slatkin conducting THE LIGHT BRIGADE".

Billboard
notice about release of "Our Winter Love" (Feb. 23, 1963)
Comments on OUR WINTER LOVE by Tommy Tedesco (from "Confessions of a Guitar Player"):
"Years ago I got a call to
do
an album with Felix Slatkin, a Los Angeles-based violin virtuoso.
The date was scheduled for a Saturday. On Friday afternoon he
suffered
a sudden heart attack and passed away. We received notice on
Friday
that the date was coming off as scheduled. We all met in the
studio
the following morning and had a big meeting with Sy Waronker, President
of Liberty Records. He and Eleanor Slatkin, Felix's widow,
convinced
everyone that Felix would have loved to have everything go on as
scheduled.
The name of the album was OUR WINTER LOVE. When the fifty to
sixty
piece orchestra started playing, emotions struck heavily with tears
flowing
throughout all sections of the orchestra. That was a moment I
will
treasure forever. To relive that moment, all I have to do
is
play the beautiful album, OUR WINTER LOVE."

NOTE: The following
information
on "SEASONS GREETINGS" was provided by Doug Peck at www.EasyListeningHQ.com
The graphics on the album cover
show the song "I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day". I have a copy
of an abridged reissue of that album which references the original and
has the same song listed on both the cover and the label.
However,
the actual song on the album is "O Come Little Children" or "Ihr
Kinderlein
Kommet".
I'm curious as to whether the original issue of the album has the correct song or the mistake. If it has the mistake, it would be fascinating to know the history of how it was made. If the original is correct, then we know that more than twelve songs were recorded and only a partial release issued, making the album with the error a neat collector's item. Incidentally, if you wanted to add the information to your site, the reissue that I have is from 1980, titled "Seasons Greetings, The Fantastic Strings of Felix Slatkin (not the "Holiday" Strings as on the Sunset reissue), contains ten cuts and carries the catalog number of LM-1070. (It eliminates "O Holy Night" and "Away in a Manger" which were listed on the original). The reissue is stereo even though it has the "LM" number which could be interpreted as "mono" for the "M".
