Richard Ames was the producer and
manager for several bands in the
mid-1960's, including The
Moving Sidewalks and Neal Ford and the Fanatics. He
co-owned Houston-based
Tantara Records with his younger brother, Steve
Ames
Promotional materials, contracts,
correspondence, photographs,
magazine articles,
newspaper clippings, and notes document Richard and Steve
Ames' work managing and
promoting The Moving Sidewalks and Neal Ford and the
Fanatics, as well as The
Outsiders and The Magic Ring. The collection's print
media articles and fan
club booklets provide detailed background information
about the bands. Steve
Ames created most of the notes, drawings, and designs in
the collection, and his
calendars for 1965-1968 include notes on concerts,
recordings, and
band-related developments. The Ames brothers' correspondence
relates primarily to
contracts and promotions. The color poster of Neal Ford
and the Fanatics was the
cover image of their 1968 self-entitled album
