Sometimes the preview can be as interesting as the featured event.
Such possibility exists this Saturday when the Conroe Tigers swim team takes part in the Oak Ridge/Woodlands Invitational at The Woodlands Athletic Center.
"It's a big meet," Conroe swim coach Steve Montgomery said. "It allows us to compete against The Woodlands and Oak Ridge, those people that we're going to swim against in our district meet. So we're excited about it.
"It's a great place to swim, nine lanes, deep water. So our times should be good. We just hope it's not cold."
Last year's region meet qualifiers Sean and Patrick Leneave, Trenton Hooker, Jay Yochim and Andrew Crowder, along with Brock Brown, Will Thompson and Ross Teaff, will be among those to watch for the Conroe boys' squad.
"We have a lot of other people who will be there and score in the relays," Montgomery noted.
Sophomores Jessie Sartin, Helen Husbands and Sara Ghazi will be among those to watch for the girls' squad along with Danielle Sartini, Jackie Wilson, Megan Gerstenberger, Jessica Phillippi and freshman Caitlin McCain.
"There will be others that help us," Montgomery added.
The Woodlands is the prohibitive favorite in Saturday's meet as well as the District 14-5A event, which doesn't take place until the end of January. But Montgomery said he feels the Tigers can compete with the remaining teams in the district.
"Oak Ridge, Klein, Klein Collins, we're all going to be in the running for second, third, fourth, fifth," Montgomery said. "It's going to be very interesting to see how it comes out."
Saturday's meet should be a good indication of what's to come.
"It will be a good way to see how we measure up," Montgomery said.
